It is £5 cheaper to get a period return from Stirling to Elgin than it is from Dunblane to Elgin (6 miles closer on the same line!), for instance. Also two summers ago I got the train to Inverness and saved £10 by buying a single to Dunkeld and one from there to Inverness. (I stayed on the train of course!)
