Peter Rhodes in Patagonia

Peter will have just returned to the UK after attempting and hopefully compleeing some pretty amzing climbs in Patagonia. His last talk was titled Beers Bears and Big Walls and is based around his adventures on some of the worlds great big-walls.
He writes "having spent months living and climbing on some of the largest faces in many different countries with a truly curious selection of folk I have amassed an amazing amount of exciting tales and photography, which combine into a totally absorbing and unique multimedia presentation. The fears, joys, teamwork, loneliness and resounding peace are just some of the full range of emotions experienced on these adventures and conveyed in my photos and tales. Having learned to climb almost entirely through the internet I tell of my reverse engineered way into the climbing world, how I learned to run before I could walk and how you always end up at the right place if you just want it enough! Aultguish Inn

The Aultguish is located at the dam on Loch Glascarnoch on the A835 Ullapool road. There are a huge number of hills within easy driving distance, and its a good chance to knock off several munros in a single day. Hopefully there will still be some snow about the place...
The Aultguish is under new management. The hostel has been renovated and includes a decent sized kitchen. The pub serves meals until 9PM.
Simon W currently has the sheet for this. He will be at the club next Thursday to take names, or you can contact him via the 'search members' option, and organise to send him a cheque.

Sleeping bags are required for this meet although there is a possibility of bedding from the hostel for 5GBP per person extra for the weekend. Contact the hostel direct yourselves to organise this.

Ochils Photo Competion

Club Meets) Best print and best slide (conventional or digital) each win a prize in our annual photographic competition, as judged by members on the night.
The best image from the first three in each category is then selected by last year\'s winner to receive the Rose Bowl.
The president also awards a prize for his choice of the most interesting or amusing image, and this can be historic, so delve into your archives.
Easter Weekend Camping Meet

Club Meets) Camping meet over Easter weekend. Up to you how long you attend for. Some people will likely do 4 nights, thurs-sun, while others will just do fri and sat.
Location to be decided, based on weather and availability. I'm for the far northwest myself somewhere with access to Rieff. Maybe
Clachtol or
Achmelvich campsites near Lochinver, or the new wild camping area at
altandhu which is the temporary replacement for Achnahaird which is now closed. Other possibilities might be Lairg (for the 4 northern Munros), or Cullen (For Logie Head) if east looks better than west (although this campsite will likely be full).
What would those who intend to come along prefer?

Rum Camping Meet (BHWE)

Club Meets) Rum Camping meet. Early May BH Weekend. Location may change if weather is awful. Those that don't wish to camp are welcome to book themselves into the hostel.
Aim is to head to Mallaig Friday Night and get the 7:30AM ferry to Rum which gets in at 08:50AM, returning on the 15:20 ferry on Monday. This gives 2 full days on the Island + one half day. There is no Sunday ferry. Cost is 10.40GBP return for the ferry. Camping costs TBA. Those with the time can obviously extend it either way.

First Aid Training Night

This will be a practical evening and although there will be no certifcate at the end of the night we will have had a change to go over the basics and ask questions about practical first aid on the hill

Coruisk Memorial Hut

Book From: 23/07/10 | 9 Places | Cost: 7.50 pppn. The Coruisk hut is on Skye, at the entrance to Loch Coruisk. Its either a 6mile walk in and out, or you can join everyone else on a boat! Plan will be to charter a boat, from Mallaig or Elgol. This meet may mean escaping work early on the Friday or taking a half day in order to get the boat on time. The other option is to extend your stay either way, and have a day or two extra on Skye. More details on boats in 2010.
