Alison

I have the book "Picos de Europa" by Sunflower Books, 4th edition, which has a selection of bus times (correct in 2007) on the reverse of the map that folds out of the back page. I can bring this in tonight and you can have a look at it and see what you think.

The "Getting About" section of the book doesn't sound that optimistic, but there again, you'd be better reading it yourself and making your own decision about it.

I'll bring it in anyway.

Nice photo to whet the apetite!(not one of mine)

Just splashed out on a Spanish rock guide with lots of Topos - I'll bring it along to Colin's talk.

Cheers

Hi all

As was discussed at the club this evening following Colin's talk, here is the link to the campsite La Isla Picos de Europa that Davy was talking about:

http://www.lieban...osdeeuropa.com/guia/campinglaisla.htm

This site is in Spanish but the translation by Google is pretty reasonable.

Davy said that the person he was talking to was called Nuria (I think), and to mention the Ochils Mountaineering Club when you book, saying that we would like pitches in the same area if possible.

Reservation is by sending a 25 Euro deposit by registered post, receipt of which will be by e-mail.

This link seems to go direct to an English translation:

If you are confused by the tariff on the English website, then you're not alone. I emailed to clarify the charges. The charge for camping is 4.50 Euros per person plus 4.15 Euros per tent. Thus for one person, with tent, for 7 nights, the charge would be 60.55 Euros. There seems to be a charge for parking a car too - that wasn't addressed in my email.

Hi anyone thinking of going to the Picos -

- just to let you know, Jean Y, Chris H and I have booked flights and a car. We're going on holiday!!!

Jean and I are flying from Glasgow to Standsted on Saturday 3rd July, 10.10am by Easy Jet, costing £43 SINGLE.

We are meeting Chris at Stansted, and onward flying to Santander at 15.05 by Ryanair, costing just over £100 RETURN when all the bits and bobs are added in.

Jean Y comes home on the 14th. Chris H re-assessed his remaining holidays, and instead of staying for one week as originally planned, has decided to stay longer so we will be coming back together on the 16th.

The three of us have hired a Ford Fiesta to be collected at Santander Airport costing £386 for the 13 days (plus £29 insurance that I somehow managed to accept without really figuring it out properly, so not sure if that was totally wise, but it was late and I was tired).

Next thing needing doing is the campsite.

Looking forward to hearing that more of you have booked in due course.

Ferry prices:

Hi

Ferry is still working out at £371 each way (portsmouth or plymouth) with a reclining seat at £14pp each way. Only the Plymouth-Santander service on the Pont Avon offers the option of the reclining seat, the Portsmouth service uses a different ship, on which you have to take a cabin at £110 for 2 people each way. Those prepared to slum it without a cabin will therefore find the plymouth service cheaper by £96 for a single person and £82 for a couple.

These are the prices for those taking a vehicle, it works out differentely for foot passengers.

Andrew and I finally got booked on the Ferry. We should arrive in Santander Thursday 1st July and will be returning from Santander on Thursday 22nd July. We were thinking of going up to a hut on the North side before going round to the campsite to join evryone. Apart from the Jeans I don't know when others are getting there- might be helpful to post this info. When do you get to Potes Davy?

Any flyers want a rucksack taken?- we should have space in the car for one. Also should have space in car for one more person if someone wants to share fuel costs and outward or return dates suit.

Cheers
