Hi All

This meet takes place next weekend 25th-27th location will be based on the weather, but suggested sites/locations are most welcome. Once the location is decided (thurs latest) then it will be posted here. If people want a text when the location is decided then send me your mobile number.

Some posts from those intending to come would be useful too to gauge numbers.

Suggest everyone gets themselves sorted with fuel early this week just in case of shortages due to industrial action @ Grangemouth! We'll find somewhere that folk can get there and back on a tank if the shortages occur...

Now is probably a good time to arrange lifts too -> especially with the mad fuel prices we have at the moment - will they ever go down...?

Non members are most welcome on this meet (and any other of course). Camping meets are an excellent intro to the club so join in!

Note: The 'Club Meets & Transport' forum is now public so non members can read/reply to messages posted here.

Myself and Lucy will be partaking and can take one other person.

Nigel

Hi

I have been checking out the weather for the weekend tonight. For my money, the Cairngorms look as if they have the best chance of some half decent weather as well as plenty to do if the weather is less than brilliant.

Thought was to stay at Dalraddy Holiday Park, 3 miles south of Aviemore ( http://www.alvie-estate.co.uk/touring_caravans_camping.htm )

Site wishes to be advised if people are going to turn up after 5PM... so if we go here then i'll need an idea of numbers.

The other option is Rothiemurchus Estate where wild camping is allowed: http://www.scottishcampingguide.com/link.php?n=630&c=25 (the wild camping is free. There is a toilet block, but whether its open is a good question!)

There's also Rothiemurchus Camp and Caravan park: http://www.rothie...ages/Activities/Camp-and-Caravan.html

Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Looked into the Rothiemurchus Estate wild camping - looks like the toilets are open, though I doubt whether there are showering fascilities. Seems to be zilch feedback on the camping meet at the moment... are people up for it?

Latest we can decide on final location is tonight after the MWIS forecast comes out. Any later and folk wont be able to make plans - Friday is too late.

I will be at the club tonight to attempt to drum up some interest...!

Alison: you are welcome to a lift with Lucy and myself, but we have no idea what we will be doing once we get there so you'll have to wing it.

Forecast is out. As per usual, there is some contradiction... As a rule though Sunday is better than Saturday for both rain and wind, while east is mostly better than west. The far northwest looks reasonable though, and stands a chance of clearing up earlier on Sat than the Cairngorms. Basically it comes down to whether folk want a round trip of ~250 miles or ~500 miles for their weekend away. I think we should go for the Cairngorms since there is quite a bit more there for baggers than the far northwest, as well as good climbing, and plenty to do indoors (incl climbing wall) if the weather turns foul. Unusually for this time of year, there will also be some winter stuff left, so it might be an idea to take axes and crampons.

I might be on for coming up to the meet on Saturday, if it is within public transport striking distance after work. My after work public transport range is now much reduced, owing to Royal Mails' "modernisation" (ie making the mail much later!). I used to be able to get to Inchnadamph or Sligachan for teatime. Now it's Inverness or Fort William that are about the reasonable limits, so the Cairngorms would suit. You can let me know tonight what the plans are. Could you bring a map in, just to point out which campsite it will be.

See you later,

Andy W.

OK, location is Dalraddy Holiday Park, 3 miles south of Aviemore between Aviemore and Kincraig. ( http://www.alvie-estate.co.uk/touring_caravans_camping.htm )

Address: Dalraddy Holiday Park, Nr Aviemore, PH22 1QB
Tel: 01479 810330

If you are arriving after 5PM, it is necessary to phone and organise your arrival in advance.

Directions: Turn off the A9 Perth to Inverness trunk road north of Kingussie and continue north on the B9152 for about 7 miles towards Aviemore. After going through Kincraig you will see a signpost on the right for ‘Alvie' & ‘Alvie Stables', turn left here, go through the tunnel under the main A9 road and onto the Estate. The Estate Office, cottages and various parts of the Estate are then signposted.

Map: http://maps.googl...2,-3.838692&spn=0.067399,0.22934&z=13

Any queries, contact Nigel on 07841 340388 (text appreciated anyway so I know I aint gonna be the only person there!)

Decided to give this one a miss -
I'll probably find a sheltered bit of the Borders for some mini-Marilyn bagging

on the subject of Marilyns - i was on Dumglow on Wednesday

making use of 'Dad's taxi' at my age tut tut

My Dad saw the nearby Nivingston crags and said it looked like a pale imitation of Stanage -
that insult aside - does anyone climb in that bit of Fife
