Rod and I were at Loch Arkaig at the weekend. Camped not far from A’Chuil bothy by the Dessary and headed up Bidein a’Chabair and its very rugged western top, Sgurr na h’Aide, in the afternoon. It was warm and sunny and we had great views of the islands, Lochs Nevis and Morar, the Glenfinnan and Glen Dessary hills, Knoydart and the Ben. Great to come back to a tent already set up – dinner was ready in minutes and followed by a good night’s sleep, despite the nocturnal whirring of the snipes. We also heard our first cuckoo(s) of the year.
On Sunday morning the sound of rain drops woke us but they did not develop into a shower. We headed up Carn Mor quite early but already saw quite a few walkers in the glen. There were folk staying at A’Chuil and one or two people biking it in. It tried to rain again later but this did not come to anything until we finally got a hefty shower half way up the hill. Once that cleared, it became sunnier and better with every step. Towards the higher hills in the north it was cloudy and drizzly but the further west we went the better it got. Again, great views to the west. Had a wonderful sunny walk out.
Looking out the window – can’t believe it’s just snowed on the Law!
