Best Article and Golden Boot 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Hi all

Well the dinner dance is fast approaching, so we need nominations for:

The best article in the newsletter over the last year: this will be judged by Sheila and Murray as the winners from last year (a prize for this has been donated by Jim McKenna's daughter).

The funniest faux pas to step into the Golden Boot: this will be judged by Scott as last year's winner.

Nominations on this thread please, or to Sheila and Murray (article), Scott (Golden Boot) or me and I will pass them on.

A suggestion has also been made to have a category for the best achievement. There's not a business meet before the DD... but I'd like thoughts and suggestions to gauge interest... or have I just put my head in a noose?

Many thanks

Jean

OK - so I have no idea how to get a smiley face onto a posting, and by trying to move one over from the list, I've just ended up with a great big web address. Sorry.

Its not you Jean - its a bug in the forum software (which they will fix someday). Put your cursor in your message where you want the emoticon to appear and then click the icon.

Make sure that you put a space before/after your smiley - and spaces between multiple emoticons.

Sounds like a great idea. I'll nominate Loopy Lucy for her JOG-LE bike ride.

Given that this excludes those still using lumps of slate for their communications - maybe you could announce it at next social in 2 weeks then those without access can partake?

I thought Scotty was using his right hand to award the golden boot to his left hand?!

Its going to get interesting as David Scott has got an equally good claim for his Bob Graham Round

and then there's Fergal and Adrian and the Skye Ridge

and how about the committee for all their hard work - Jean has arranged a great selection of talks for Thursday nights .

Or the club members who are always ready to volunteer to take new members out on the hills ,

its too diverse this one

If its the article of the year its easier to judge
but what makes an outstanding acheivement or contribution to the club ?

Piolet d'Or and other such awards are always contentious: can OMC really rise above that? Whose to say the new-gal's first multi-pitch lead is of higher merit that sauntering up some god-forsaken snow lump in Outer Wherever? Surel;y, we don't need to go down that route?
aye, Andy

Dinnae worry Andy, I'm not in the running for it either! My understanding was that it was however going to be a climbing achievement and while the massive achievements of the completion of the Bob Graham round, cycling the length of our big island or traversing the Skye ridge, are indeed massive achievements but no' really climbing are they?
Great thing this interweb chatroom innit? How do you spell contenshus?

Nigel

The obvious winner I think! Maybe his buddy should get his name on it as well though!

I would'nae want to win, John, it even if I had cycled The Greater Skye Traverse.

Anyhow, I can't make out what Bob Graham's got to do with it unless, top notch dog food is what helps numb the pain of tearing up 'n down the fells around The Ponds.

aye, Andy

I'd like to give Scott a second nomination, this time for this thread:
http://www.ochils...temid,135/func,view/id,2238/catid,10/

It has since transpired that Lizz [sic] and Robert's baby boy was not, in fact, named after a moderately popular American sitcom.
It was good to see wee Fraser last night, glad him and his parents are doing well
