Training 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
Every year, the club tries to provide, or subsidise, training for members. It has been suggested that the club run the following courses over the winter months: basic navigation, night navigation, introductory winter skills, intermediate winter skills. Members can also be further subsidised on already discounted MCofS courses such as: http://www.mcofs.org.uk/winter-skills-courses.aspIf you are interested in any of these areas of training, contact me by e-mail, telephone or in person on a Thursday evening. If you have any other suggestions, post them on this thread! Further info is available in the FAQ section of the website.

I would dearly like to know how to use my GPS for a wee bit more than checking my grid reference. I couldn't figure out the manual!!! Any chance of a basic GPS session?

Jean, Andy, Anne, thanks for the suggestions and offers. If the numbers get up a bit, I'm sure the Training Committee would support. Anne, would this be of interest? http://www.mcofs.org.uk/first-aid-course.aspKeep the suggestions coming in, folks.

This weekend is an opportunity, for want of a better word, to train in some of the basics: A wee story if you'll indulge me, please.
A couple of years ago, I took a small group onto the N slopes of Aonach Mor from the deserted Ski car park. Simple tasks like having the contents of your rucksac organised, map well sorted, clothing adjusted to minimise having to pause to correct unwanted venting or rain entry points and your rucksac well fitted were soon appreciated by my group and they ended-up battered and wind blasted in one of the chairlift turntable houses where they could re-group, feed and re-set themselves.
Strangely, in the 65MPh winds, only Louise Thomas from PyB was of the mind to take her group out but once we had flown down to the glen I was amazed at how buzzing the participants were from their experience. I know two other instructors headed for Ice Factor and one went to show his clients around the shops!
I don't think any 'substances' were being used by my squad: I think it was just a very powerful surge of Dopamine and Serotonin that was coursing through everybody having worked through an experience that they wouldn't have even thought of going through on their own.
So, the point in this is to encourage folk to think of what they would really like to have the opportunity to train in 'cause if the ML's and MI's in the Club can't run what your asking for we can sure find ones who will!
Your ideas don't have to be top end, high performance ideas.
Hope the wind doesn't get to you, aye, Andy

Other than the training requests, suggestions and offers on this thread, there have been only three other expressions of interest that I have heard of. Due to circumstances I haven't been down at the Rugby Club for the last three Thursdays; could anyone with an interest please express it before or at the next business meet.
